Where is a good area for a college student to live in Dublin Ireland

Where is a good area for a college student to live in Dublin Ireland?
I am a 20 year old female college student that will be spending 3 months in Dublin over the summer on a work holiday. Does anyone have any suggestions on what areas I should look for living accomatdations or just anyother advice on Ireland in general, I've never been before.

An area very popular with students and young people is Rathmines. Generally I would advise spending as little time as possible in Dublin, and heading out of it when you get the chance. It's just too expensive to be any fun anymore.

don't mind him or her its great and its getting cheaper im studying tv at the mo anywhere near the city is good rathmines is shit and pricier try crumlin its grand these day good luck and enjoy

Consider the north side as well for accommodation, which is often cheaper than the south side of the Liffey, just a historical thing. North Strand/Fairview and Marino are close to the city centre(15min walk) for the night life etc, while close to the strand road, which goes out to Howth, for lovely walks. It also has all the facilities you need, video shop, Centra, bottle store etc.

Good areas are away from the city center. Unfortunately the 70 pc of the city is bad than good. The west south is a ghetto, the west North could be dodgy sometimes with extremely deprived areas. The East side is good but there are bad areas there as well. I would say have a look at www.daft.ie and there you can make up your mind. My favorite areas are Clontarf, South East (except Dun Laoghaire), Casteknock, Howth, Dalkey, Dundrum, Rathmines could be dodgy sometimes. Anyway have a look at the website and then you can ask me individually about the properties you like regarding the areas. Be careful, Dublin is a rough city and you can be killed in a bad place in a wrong time. Ireland is a very racist country. You will get racist comments and people will always look at you as a foreigner, outsider, an invader, a person responsible for the economic collapse, no matter where are you from. I live here for 3 years and I can't wait to leave. But for 3 months, this is not even an issue. 3 months can fly quickly. Regarding holiday work...the Irish economy has collapsed, there is no job at all, and even in the good times, the employers were giving priority to the locals. 3 years here and I haven't seen any foreigner working in a good job. Therefore you can put yourself in the sea of unemployed, but always as a second choice employee.

I like the south-west, but I was recently in Waterford city and I'd recommend living somewhere in that area.

Bantry in the south-west is probably as friendly a town that you will find. Stunning scenery all round the West Cork area. It is an hour-hour and a half drive to Cork city. I lived there for two years.
3 :
do you want to live and work or retire. its all about cost. the nearer the cities , the dearer the cost.

rent= 650 a month minimum Bills= 100 a month it depends on yourself how frugal you r eg if you have a house phone you have to pay line rental etc.. Food= again it depends on how frugal you are and if your just buying for yourself and where you shop if its just for yourself 70 a week around
2 :
The first answer could have provided more. Running a car is very expensive, in addition to insurance and tax, petrol is now very expensive. If you live in an urban area, you might be able to rely on public transport, which isn't cheap either.
3 :
It is expensive to live in Ireland compared to the US and many EU countries. Nobody can give you a definitive answer because it depends on whether you live alone and are very frugal or you have a family with say 4 children, whether you rent a small flat or have a mortgage on a 5 bedroom house. If you have a large house your household bills will be proportionately more expensive than someone living alone in a bedsit. House insurance will be higher too. Also depends how much you eat? I buy most of our family's meat off the short date counter in the supermarket where food is reduced in price so most of our meals are based around what I can buy cheaply. My grocery shop for a family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers is around 110 Euro a week including household cleaning products/shampoo/dog food etc. If you run a huge car that eats the petrol you will spend more on fuel (and car tax) than if you have a small car that is more economical. Car insurance is very high. Too many variables to even begin to answer properly other than to say it is expensive.
4 :
You have to take into account that you will also have to support a lot of Bankers from all over the world and they have very expensive tastes.
5 :
it's a very expensive place to live. the exchange rates with the euro and all are rediculous these days. don't come to ireland, as it is a shithole anyway. kbye.
