What are some cool towns/countys to live in Ireland

What are some cool towns/countys to live in Ireland?
My wife and I are going to Ireland for 3 months to vacation/ look for houses and find jobs before we decided if we want to stay there. If any of you live there or have been and know of some cool towns i should check out let me know. We are are both 25 and we like to kick back and have fun and do alittle partying. We are mostly sure we don't want to live in Dublin. Thanks for your help.

ashbourne, co meath is a great commuter town, decent nightlife, with cheap housing, near to dublin city [20 mins by bus], there's plenty of shopping, and they're building a cinema at the rath cross! [near the bypass]

My partner and I have just returned to the UK from living in Ireland for 6 years. Our jobs took us around the country so I can tell you my experiences and hope it will help you. Dublin: its said that ireland is divided into Dublin and the rest of the country.... I personally didnt like it, in fact its so big and busy that I hated it. Employment is easier to find in Dublin and the transport is of course better. Limerick: Rather nice looking city, again a good work base, and easy to get out into the country and all the amenaties. The people are a little odd and it has a reputation for violence (nicknamed 'stab city'). Kilkenny: Beautiful, small city (small town atmosphere), Medieval streets and good transport network. Has a lot of festivals of Comedy, Roots music and Art. I enjoyed Kilkenny and the pubs are the best. Try John Cleeres; best Guinness in Ireland. Thurles, Tipperary: Very small provincial town. Good honest people with the oddness only found in the Irish Midlands. Set in beautiful countryside and easily reached from Dublin or Cork. Hope this helps. Good luck.

How long can I live in Ireland without having to pay taxes

How long can I live in Ireland without having to pay taxes?
I wanted to move to Ireland to live part-time. But I think there is a limit on how much I can make in Ireland without having to pay taxes. How much is it? How long can I live and work there before I have to pay tax?

You will be charged tax on all of your income from Irish sources. The extent of your liability to Irish tax may also be influenced by your domicile status and possibly by a double taxation agreement. How much tax you have to pay will depend on how much you earn, if you have family, if you own a house, if you pay refuse collection charges...the list goes on. In addition to income tax, social insurance (known in Ireland as 'Pay-Related Social Insurance' or PRSI) and, where applicable, a 2% health contribution are also deducted through the tax system by employers or paid to the Revenue Commissioners directly by the self-employed. To be able to work legally, you must have an PPS number (Social Security no.) and to get one of those, you have to register with the tax office. The best and most legal thing to do is to register and do a tax return, If you are within the limits, any tax you pay will be returned to you.

Joe, your answer made me laugh! In a good way. Fireworks are illegal in Ireland, dear. This is why no reputable company will sell fireworks to an address in the Republic of Ireland. If you want to get them legally, there are ways, but you have to get garda clearance and a special licence, and it's just really an expensive load of hassle.

Fireworks are illegal in the republic but the gardai don't take any notice. you can buy them up the north fairly cheap.
