Almost no skills are in demand. They have very high unemployment. You will need a work visa unless you come from an EU country.

Go to any employment agency website and see what they're looking for. www.recruitireland.ie www.fas.ie www.monster.ie

Sadly no skills are "in demand" right now there are over 400,000 people looking for work and the situation is getting worse by the day with companies going bust and/or laying off staff to reduce overheads. Many skilled jobs are being transferred to Eastern Europe and Asia becuase the production and running costs are a lot less. If jobs do become available most Irish employers favour Irish candidates I'm afraid so the chances of you getting a job in the current economic climate are virtually nil.

I have a local paper beside me here, there is a job section in it, about 5 years ago we had a labor shortage and there were always at least 50 jobs in it. This seemed nice but it was bad for industry and commerce and therefore the economy, so luckily plenty of people immigrated and saved us from a much earlier and harder recession. Now there is one job, advertised every week, which is door to door sales. I rang them and you have to walk around knocking on doors and you don't make a penny unless people actually buy your product. On the bright side it's not very difficult to get a work permit in Ireland if you are American (It took my cousin about 4 months), you just won't be able to do anything with it unless door to door sales appeals to you.

You must be Irish in order to get a good job in Ireland. Foreigners are always second choice, no matter where are you from.

Roof thatchers are in demand at the moment. Silage cutters, septic tank installation operatives and road line markers are always areas for work. There's a vacancy in RTE at the moment for the Saturday night slot when Tubridy goes to do the Late Late in September. You should apply for that straight away.

Trust me I am a Doctor is right sadly. There is next to nothing out there right now, and as someone else said, any jobs you do see advertised are usually take-on's like commission only sales or something like that! Additionally, if you go onto any recruiters website, the majority of the jobs you see are not 'real' ie: they have already been filled or are in the final stages of the selection process. Also, I frequently see the same job being advertised by many recruiters, so what you see on recruitment websites is a far cry from what is actually available out there.
