Best city to live in Ireland

Best city to live in Ireland?
I will be moving to Ireland for an indefinite period of time in June (3 months minimum to 1 year). Where would be the best place to live....regarding job possibilities, affordable housing, younger people...(in their 20's) What do you think?

It has to be galway!! Dublin is like any city in the world it has no distinctiveness to make it stand out Galway is more relaxed, less expensive better nights out for people who dont neccessarily like the chaos of a big city Cork is not a bad alternative either

Being from Dublin (but living in the states), I have to say Dublin. There would be more choices for employment but its expensive to live there. Now is a very bad time to move there as their economy has been it really badly. The Celtic Tiger is well gone.

Galway without a doubt, not too urban , not too rural plus you get a sense of the 'real Ireland'.

Obviously Newry. I thought everyone knew that! It really isn't the worst, it has one of the youngest populations on the island, your chances of getting a job here are probably better in Newry than anywhere else and we have a football team. What more could you want? :)

I'm interested in going to live in Ireland but need to know what skills are in demand

I'm interested in going to live in Ireland but need to know what skills are in demand?

Almost no skills are in demand. They have very high unemployment. You will need a work visa unless you come from an EU country.
2 :
Go to any employment agency website and see what they're looking for. www.recruitireland.ie www.fas.ie www.monster.ie
3 :
Sadly no skills are "in demand" right now there are over 400,000 people looking for work and the situation is getting worse by the day with companies going bust and/or laying off staff to reduce overheads. Many skilled jobs are being transferred to Eastern Europe and Asia becuase the production and running costs are a lot less. If jobs do become available most Irish employers favour Irish candidates I'm afraid so the chances of you getting a job in the current economic climate are virtually nil.
4 :
I have a local paper beside me here, there is a job section in it, about 5 years ago we had a labor shortage and there were always at least 50 jobs in it. This seemed nice but it was bad for industry and commerce and therefore the economy, so luckily plenty of people immigrated and saved us from a much earlier and harder recession. Now there is one job, advertised every week, which is door to door sales. I rang them and you have to walk around knocking on doors and you don't make a penny unless people actually buy your product. On the bright side it's not very difficult to get a work permit in Ireland if you are American (It took my cousin about 4 months), you just won't be able to do anything with it unless door to door sales appeals to you.
5 :
You must be Irish in order to get a good job in Ireland. Foreigners are always second choice, no matter where are you from.
6 :
Roof thatchers are in demand at the moment. Silage cutters, septic tank installation operatives and road line markers are always areas for work. There's a vacancy in RTE at the moment for the Saturday night slot when Tubridy goes to do the Late Late in September. You should apply for that straight away.
7 :
Trust me I am a Doctor is right sadly. There is next to nothing out there right now, and as someone else said, any jobs you do see advertised are usually take-on's like commission only sales or something like that! Additionally, if you go onto any recruiters website, the majority of the jobs you see are not 'real' ie: they have already been filled or are in the final stages of the selection process. Also, I frequently see the same job being advertised by many recruiters, so what you see on recruitment websites is a far cry from what is actually available out there.

My phone is 02 Ireland even though I live in N.I. Charged extra for sending BBMs at home

My phone is 02 Ireland even though I live in N.I. Charged extra for sending BBMs at home?
I live in N Ireland, but I'm a few miles from the border so my phone network is O2 Ireland. If I get a BlackBerry will I be charged extra for sending BBMs when I'm at home?

Not sure if you are saying that O2 RoI is the network you have a SIM for (but live in N.I.), or if you have a SIM for a N.I. network but are currently register on O2 RoI? If the network you are registered on is NOT the one you have a SIM for, then yes, you will be charged extra, because you will be treated as having been roamed at the time. If you have a poor signal for your N.I. network, I suggest you try and establish whether or not you get a better signal from one of the other N.I. networks, then port your number to that network. [It may be a case of buying cheap PAYG SIMs, and trying them in a handset to see which gives you better signal strength, before deciding which network to port to] Has this only just started happening? [Your local cell site may be down, due to maintenance, upgrade, vandalism, lost power or connection to the network (e.g. JCB sliced through an underground cable)] You can respond to points raised above by updating your question using the "Additional Details" button. Incidentally, you posted this in Land Phones - Mobile Phones & Plans would have been a better category to get an answer :-D

you probably won't make any money from that, but it would be whatever taxes businesses or self employed workers pay
